Wonderful piece! I didn’t realize how impacted I was by the images/things my mom decorated with until adulthood. And how strongly I feel about carrying them on, like putting the black Angel on top of the Christmas tree, paintings of our women on the wall, and the huge collection of dolls I had (and their diversity of blackness). I never for a second questioned my beauty as a black girl, even when peers or media tried to negate it. I knew the truth.
